Our Approach

Our approach is defined by the need for increased sustainability, legitimacy and impact of governance and development programs.
Based on the above three tenets, the implementation of our programs is premised on 5 pillars:

  1. Partnerships:
    Camel Communities strive to build strategic, funding and implementing partners (at community, national and international levels) throughout her program portfolio. We believe that development work is more effective when synergies are built across organisations and communities.

 

  1. Work through existing local institutions:
    Camel Communities as much as practically possible works through established local leaders and institutions. This enhances legitimacy and sustainability of the programs we undertake in the respective communities.

 

  1. Main stream cross cutting themes in all our programs:
    In designing and implementing all programs across our focus areas, the cross-cutting themes of youth, women, ICT and urbanisation are mainstreamed. A case in point is the mainstreaming of ICT in all our focus areas and ensuring that youth, women and the urban poor participate/benefit meaningfully from  our programs.

 

  1. Compliment not competes:
    Based on our organisational philosophy, Camel Communities tries as much as possible to ensure that her programs compliment not compete with existing government, communities and other civil society programs. This is also in tandem with our emphasis on building partnerships across the spectrum of development actors.

 

  1. Evidence based programming:
    Our program design is premised on evidence based and participatory planning. The organisation relies on existing evidence or undertakes new evidence based on baseline surveys, focused discussions and community engagements, among others.

Camel Communities has annual work plans and quarterly reviews to assess impact of the programs being implemented and to re-align them with the emerging issues in the environment. Project and Annual Reports are transparently shared with all interest holders in a timely and convenient manner.
